50th Nage Evasion by Jacques Tuset in Portovenere

On Sunday 23rd April in Portovenere (La Spezia) the well-known French swimmer IMSHOF Honor Swimmer Jacques Tuset made his 50th “nage evasion” (en, escape from prison) in Italy, more precisely starting from the Palmaria Island where at the time of the Second World War and in the following years he there was a military prison.

To carry out this swim, Tuset turned to the NAL Staff for operational logistics and to Nuoto Salvamento La Spezia (NSL) for safety at sea.
The adventure began at 9:40 AM from the Olivo Beach in Portovenere, where Jacques Tuset wanted to take an exploratory swim towards the Palmaria Island, escorted by Giuseppe Mineo (skipper and navigator), Franco Lo Cascio (observer, timekeeper and open water swimming judge) and Franco Muscarà (responsible for rescue, safety and navigation).
After landing on the island on the Cala Schenello beach, Tuset “fled” towards Torre Scola by swimming around and then heading to the Olivo beach, taking a total of 75 minutes.

After the nage escape, Tuset and his family were guests of the NAL and the NSL in a club in the area, where it was the occasion for the various awards, gifts and thank-you gadgets between the French swimmer and the organizing staff.

“Everything was perfect and organized in the best possible way, I had a really beautiful swim and I hope to come back to you soon to maybe take a swim from Portovenere to Monterosso in the wonderful Cinque Terre sea”, said Tuset at the end of the day.

“Excellent day on all fronts. Being able to support swimmers and people of this stature gives positive emotions and it will be a real pleasure to welcome Jacques again with open arms should he come back to visit us”, comments Franco Muscarà – NAL and NSL.
